Asta
Asta is more than just one of the main characters in Black Clover, he is the protagonist of the story. He was born with no powers, but gained abilities from a four-leaf grimoire that had previously belonged to Licht, but was eventually corrupted by the demon Liebe, turning the magical artifact into a five-leaf one.
With this, Asta's dream of becoming the next King of the Magi became more possible as he ended up receiving the ability to nullify his opponent's magic, which earned him the rank of a mage in the Arcane Stage. He also has extreme physical strength and agility as he trained his body to the limit to compensate for his lack of magical powers before receiving his grimoire.
Yuno
While Asta was born without any aptitude for magic, Yuno already had an affinity with magical elements even before he received his grimoire. He is the protagonist's rival and is also one of the main characters in Black Clover. The boy also has a dream of becoming the Magi King of the Kingdom of Clover and he works hard to achieve his goal.
He and Asta grew up together in the orphanage and, when the time came for him to receive his grimoire, he was given a powerful four-leafed one. He is more efficient at practicing spells that involve the wind element and has been perfecting his skills more and more. Yuno is almost a second protagonist in the anime and also one of the most popular characters in Black Clover.
Yami Sukehiro
If there's a hothead among the main characters in Black Clover, it certainly belongs to Yami Sukehiro. He made his first appearance during the recruitment of new members for his squadron, as captain of the Black Bulls. This division houses Asta in the order of knights of the Magic Kingdom and it was Yami who saw potential in the protagonist when no other captain did, offering him a place in his group.
His ability involves the use of Black Magic, being able to channel the force of his power through his katana. This type of magic has the ability to attract other magic, such as White Magic, being able to absorb it in the darkness. His classification as a mage is that of the Arcane Stage since his Black Magic can naturally affect the Otherworld.
Willian Vangeance
The captain of the squadron that takes Yuno in is Willian Vangeance. He is one of the main characters in Black Clover and also the leader of Golden Dawn. He also makes his first appearance during the selection of new recruits for his squadron and attracts attention with his imposing and strong aura, as well as his peculiar appearance.
As well as being the illegitimate son of a nobleman from the Kingdom of Clover, he has always been seen as a cursed child because of the scar on his face. In fact, he is the vessel of the spirit of the elf Patolli, leader of the Eye of the Midnight Sun. Willian is also considered the closest person to achieving the title of King of the Magi.
Noelle Silva
Noelle can be seen as an arrogant character at first glance, but this is due to her upbringing and complicated past. She is the second daughter of House Silva of the Kingdom of Clover, part of the nobility, and even refuses Asta as a friend in her first appearance, saying at first that he hadn't given her permission to speak to her, but later all that changes drastically.
The girl has magical powers that focus on the element of water and her main tactic is to throw water bubbles at her enemies. Noelle, like Asta, is part of the Black Bull Squadron and is one of the main characters in Black Clover.
Klaus Lunette
Among the main characters in Black Clover, Klaus is one of the most arrogant. He is a veteran member of the Golden Dawn Squadron and his power is linked to the element of steel. Klaus can manipulate this metal as he sees fit, making him one of the strongest characters in Black Clover.
He has a habit of judging people as inferior because of their origins, and since Asta and Yuno are poor orphans, Klaus took very little notice of them and underestimated them at first. As the series progresses, Klaus sees their potential and his opinion changes dramatically.
Mimosa Vermillion
Despite also being royalty, Mimosa insists on having the opposite personality to what is expected of someone from her lineage. She's sweet, kind and avoids judging people by what they have or where they come from. She's part of the Golden Dawn Squadron, just like Yuno, and also plays one of the main characters in Black Clover.
Mimosa's magical powers have to do with plants and nature in general, focusing on healing spells. She always proves to be an excellent healer for her team, but over time the girl also manages to develop offensive spells. She appears in episode 12 of the anime and after that becomes a frequent presence, being one of the few who didn't think badly of Asta and Yuno because of their origins.
Julius Novachrono
As the current Magician King of Clover, Julius couldn't be missing from a list of Black Clover's main characters. His personality is very similar to that of the protagonist Asta, being a bit childish and easy to impress most of the time. However, that doesn't change the fact that he's quite powerful and trusts his knights too much.
He is the wizard who controls the Magic of Time. With this power he can manipulate time as he sees fit, speeding up, slowing down, stopping and even reversing the flow of time. Julius also has an obsession with exploring the kingdom in search of magic he doesn't know about, which fuels his adventurous and exploratory spirit. He first appears in the very first episode of the anime, but it is only later that we get a real glimpse of his personality and goals.
Licht
Licht is not only one of the main characters in Black Clover, but also the first main villain introduced in the series. He is the original owner of the grimoire used by Asta, but has proved to be much stronger than the protagonist in some clashes. His race is that of the elves and his powers are linked to light magic, just like the first Magician King, which makes him feared by many.
The character was even able to use Forbidden Magic, which is one of the strongest and rarest techniques in the Black Clover universe. All this ability makes his level of power indisputable and, even though he was eventually defeated and achieved his redemption, his evil legacy has not been completely forgotten.
Sister Lily Akuaria
Despite being one of the main characters in Black Clover, Sister Lily doesn't have any formidable powers that make her stand out. She was an extremely important figure in Asta's life while he was growing up in the orphanage, and that's enough for him to propose to her in almost all of her appearances.
The character explains that a relationship between them is impossible, but the protagonist seems quite determined to marry her one day. Eventually, Lily's encounter with a powerful villain changes her destiny forever.
Rades Spirito
Here we have a classic case of a character who is first introduced as a villain and then joins the protagonist's group to protect his ideals and the greater good. Rades Spirito is one of the main characters in Black Clover, having been a member of the Purple Orcas squadron, but ended up being expelled from it and joining the team of villains known as the Eye of the Midnight Sun.
The character is the user of Soul Corpse Magic, able to control the bodies of dead people by fusing their mana into corpses. He can even control an army of corpses, which gives Asta and his companions a lot of headaches when they have to face him in the anime.
