Although it's a challenging task, we've tried to be as impartial as possible, analyzing supernatural abilities and powers to put together a fair list of the most powerful anime characters. So, in today's article, you can check out thirteen characters that no one would ever want to pick a fight with, ranked in ascending order! Is your favorite among them? Follow us to find out!
Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Gojo is not only one of the strongest characters in anime, but also one of the most charismatic. The funny and powerful teacher and mentor of protagonist Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen is considered the strongest living sorcerer in the franchise's universe. That's because as well as mastering many powerful cursed techniques, he can also master the Domain Expansion.
He's not known for being humble, but then again, isn't he? He knows he deserves his fame. His light-hearted humor is only intended for his students and those closest to him; other types of people receive antipathy and cruelty from him most of the time. He's certainly an unusual mentor by the standards anime fans are used to, which may be the key to his fame among the public.
Tetsuo Shima (Akira)
Those of us from the old days remember this one very well and agree that he couldn't be left out of anime's strongest characters. Tetsuo Shima is the main villain of Akira, a very old work released in 1991 that remains one of the greatest classics of the genre. The amount of Tetsuo's abilities borders on the insane if you stop to analyze them.
He has super strength, enhanced speed, is agile in his attacks, teleports, reads minds, regenerates, has telekinesis, flies, makes energy projections and even shows resistance to temperature changes. He's about as immortal as a cockroach in the middle of a radioactive disaster, but all he really is is a boy from a biker gang who had an accident and became a guinea pig in a laboratory where he was subjected to various tests.
Mob (Mob Psycho 100)
Mob is the nickname given to young Shigeo Kageyama, a boy who possesses abilities so powerful that they earn him a more than special place among the strongest characters in anime. He is a high school boy with mediumistic powers who reached the maximum level of his potential at a very young age and is considered a potential time bomb.
His powers are likened to great natural disasters and he needs to keep a close eye on his emotions so that he doesn't end up losing control of his powers and using them in very destructive ways. His mode, known as "Mode 100%", is practically unstoppable and can destroy everything in existence just by using the power of his mind.
Naruto (Naruto)
Despite starting out as a zero at the beginning of the anime that bears his name in the title, it is undeniable that with his evolution throughout the series Naruto has earned his place among the strongest characters in anime. From a failed student who almost repeated the graduation exam at the Ninja Academy, the boy managed to reach the position of Hokage, occupying the post of leader of his village, something that only the strongest ninja could be appointed to be.
His powers go beyond the capacity of any normal ninja in the franchise's universe, having a very large chakra reserve within him due to his Uzumaki blood and his connection with the Nine-Tailed Fox. Later on, Naruto also receives some abilities from the Sage of the Six Paths, which makes him even stronger than he had already become during his training with Jiraiya to activate sennin mode.
Long before that, he was able to be super strong, super fast and transform himself into various objects during a battle, as well as cloning himself a large number of times in his classic "Shadow Clone Jutsu".
Giorno Giovanna (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
Of all the protagonists in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Giorno Giovanna is the one who most deserves to be among the strongest characters in anime. He can create and manipulate life, such as plants, animals and cell tissue in general. It seems strange at first glance, but if used with the right strategy, Giorno becomes almost unbeatable, making him immune to various attacks if the skill is used quickly.
Despite all this, Giorno has a mild temper and is always very attached to his ideals. He plans to become the leader of the Italian mafia to prevent drugs from continuing to be sold to children on the streets of the town where he lives. Later on in the story, Giorno's stand receives some upgrades that make him even more invincible, leaving his enemies unable to even find out what hit them before they are defeated once and for all.
Eren Yaeger (Attack on Titan)
Moving into the Attack on Titan universe, there's no ignoring the full power of protagonist Eren Yaeger. He begins the series as a 15-year-old boy who dreams of seeing the world through the walls that surround his city, but it doesn't take long for him to receive powers and become one of the strongest characters in anime.
Eren is given the ability to transform into an enormous titan over fifteen meters tall. Over time, the viewer discovers that the titan inhabiting young Eren's body is the Attack Titan, but he also acquires powers from other titans, such as the Founder, the Hammer Titan and the War Titan. He had enough power to command an entire army of giants, even those bigger and stronger than his titanic physical form.
Madoka Kaname (Madoka Magica)
Despite appearing to be just a sweet, fragile girl, Madoka Kaname has enough power to destroy an entire universe, so don't be fooled by appearances! This girl easily makes the list of the strongest anime characters with her abilities of strength, agility, time manipulation and even the ability to change the laws of the universe if she so wishes. By the end of the anime, Madoka has reached the level of "goddess" and no wonder!
Following her evolution from a naive and gentle little girl to her final form is an exciting task and the highlight of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The anime follows a group of girls, including Madoka, who become magical girls with the aim of defeating witches, but then each of them realizes that the situation is much deeper and more dangerous than they imagined.
Bernkastel (Umineko no Naku Koro Ni)
Bernkastel is, along with the character Lambdadelta from Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, one of the strongest anime characters of all time, managing to be even more broken than Madoka herself. She can manipulate space-time, is omnipresent and, if she is eliminated, the girl can still be resurrected.
She is the representation of the feeling of "disappointment" and "tragedy", appearing to have an empty personality at first glance, always looking bored and cold. But inside, she is sadistic and can end up surprising the viewer with her true way of seeing things.
Mercurius (Dies Irae)
Mercurius would be quite an opponent for Madoka and Bernkastel if either of them wanted to go toe-to-toe with him at some point. He is a kind of omnipresent and omnipotent deity who also has the ability to control space-time. He's certainly one of the strongest anime characters ever created and he shows this in his appearances in the anime Dies Irae, released in 2017.
The character also has a few extra tricks when it comes to extending his powers. He can control the minds of his enemies, levitate objects with telekinesis and even travel between dimensions. However, despite everything, he is very realistic in terms of his thinking and his personality follows this rational ideal.
Koro-sensei (Assassination Classroom)
Koro-sensei's name comes from the word "korosenai" which in Japanese means "impossible to eliminate" and "sensei" which is "teacher". This character is the central figure in the anime Assassination Classroom and, despite his strange appearance reminiscent of a humanized octopus, he is so strong that he caused an incident on the Moon and promises to destroy the Earth after teaching a group of teenagers for a year.
His powers go far beyond the aforementioned super strength, as his agility allows him to dodge even bullets. You can't create a list of the strongest anime characters without mentioning Koro-sensei! The class he teaches will have a lot of work to do since the only goal he has given his students to prevent the destruction of the planet is for one of them to eliminate him once and for all.
Kyubey (Madoka Magica)
Despite his cute and harmless appearance, Kyubey is the bronze medal winner among the strongest anime characters. This little creature lives for chaos and aims to bring about the collapse of other existences, regardless of whether they are people, planets or entire universes! It is she who puts Madoka and the other girls into the life of "magical girls" and seals their fates forever.
His powers include omnipotence and the manipulation of reality, which puts him very high on the scale of skilled characters mentioned here. However, with his innocent appearance, he has an advantage over a possible adversary who probably won't notice him and will be taken by surprise by his intelligent and diabolical mind.
Son Goku (Dragon Ball)
As incredible as it may seem, the gold medal winner among the strongest anime characters is not Goku, but he does take the silver medal with flying colors. He's an alien who was raised on Earth and is always looking to improve himself more and more to become strong enough to protect the planet from all kinds of threats.
Goku has several interesting powers, such as super strength, inter-dimensional teleportation, telepathy, telekinesis, a very high level ki sensor, regeneration and he has also mastered several martial arts. Goku is also no longer with us and has returned from the dead a few times, proving that defeating him for good is no easy task for his opponents.
Saitama (One Punch Man)
Despite calling himself a "hobby hero", Saitama is certainly the strongest character in all of anime. The protagonist of One Punch Man is known worldwide for the fact that none of his fights last longer than a single punch, and he always wins without much effort.
Of course, all this strength didn't come without a fight. He was filled with determination and began arduous training consisting of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats and running 10km a day for 100 days straight. He survives almost everything, showing endurance, strength and agility, making him the gold medal winner among the strongest anime characters!
